8,200 polling staff deployed in district: Collector Gaurav Uppal

Nalgonda: District Collector Gaurav Uppal stated that all arrangements have been made for conduct of the upcoming Assembly elections across the Nalgonda district.
On Thursday, speaking to The Hans India, he informed that the district has a population of 18.40 lakh and there are 12, 72,340 voters. For smooth conduct of Assembly elections in six Assembly constituencies, six returning officers were appointed and as many as 1,679 polling booths were established and each covering 800 to 1,000 voters in rural areas and 1,000 to 1400 voters in urban areas.
He advised the people and political parties to check the names of voters for necessary changes on the national voters’ service portal. As many as 48 polling booths were shifted to other places due to various reasons including buildings in dilapidated state or problematic location or political affiliation etc.
One model polling station was arranged for disabled and two model polling stations with complete women staff and women police were set up in the district, he added.
He informed that micro observers were appointed and web casting is going to be done in 404 polling stations in the district, which were found sensitive as per the previous track record. Web casting will be connected to district returning officer, EC and CEO to know the situation at the respective centers.
Three flying squad and three video surveillance teams were constituted to inspect the implementation of model code of conduct in the district.
As per the guidelines of the Election Commission, expenditure of a contesting candidate should not exceed Rs 28 lakh from the date of nomination to till the election date.
As many as 8,200 polling staff are going to be deployed in the district and none of the polling staff will be allotted at the native place, native mandal or at place of work.
Anybody can lodge complaints about violation of model code of conduct from anywhere through C-Vigil app to take action as per the law.
So far, as many as 22 complaints were received with regard to the model code of conduct, out of them 12 found correct and other 10 identified as false, he added.
As many as two inter- state check posts and four inter- district check posts were set up to prevent circulation of illegal liquor and money for smooth conducting of elections in the district.
So far Rs 42 .90 lakh was seized at various check posts by the district police, he added. The Excise officials have closed all belt shops in the district in view of Assembly elections.
Services of the central police and central government employees will be utilized at the critical polling centers. Reports have been received that as many as 51 polling stations in 28 villages are reportedly getting ready to boycott the elections with various reasons and as many as 78 persons identified behind the boycott decision of elections.
District police under the supervision of district SP AV Ranganath will take care of security arrangements for free and fair elections in the district, he informed. On December 11, counting of votes of all six Assembly constituencies will be done at the State warehousing corporation go-downs located at Duppalapally of Nalgonda mandal under tight security, he asserted.
