‘Cookin Nanta,’ a Korean non-verbal cooking comedy show, will be performed in the city on Saturday at Shilpakala Vedika starting from 6pm. The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hyderabad, in association with Telangana Tourism and Korea Foundation, brings the musical comic show to Hyderabad. The objective for conducting such shows is to lay a strong foundation of bilateral relationship between the two countries, India and Korea.
The show has been running successfully since October 1997, and it completes 20years this October. It is the most popular comic show ever in Korea. It also has achieved outstanding international success across the world. The show was acclaimed at Broadway Theatre and the toured around the US and the rest of the world. People raved about the show wherever performed. Through rhythmic banging of knives, pots and pans, and without a single dialogue, ‘Cookin Nanta’ tells a story of four crazy chefs who set out to do an impossible task of making a wedding banquet in just an hour. What follow is a pure musical mayhem, and a love story which befits the show. It is based on Korea’s traditional garak (rhythms) of Samulnori (traditional Korean percussion quartet)and can be enjoyed with family.
The story begins with three chefs attending their daily chores, when the manager brings his little troublemaking nephew and asks the chefs to teach him cooking. The manager gives an order to prepare dishes for an unexpected wedding reception. Savory smells waft all over the kitchen bringing smiles, and the hilarious chefs spellbound the audience with their performances. Only one hour to go before the party starts. Is it possible for the chefs to complete the preparations in time for the wedding party? Non-stop action, laughter and rhythmic beating will follow. It is a theatrical delight by a group of Korean artists Hwang Yohan, Ko Changhwan, Na Junseok, Hyun Junghwan and Yun Hyejin. The show has universal appeal and people of all ages can enjoy. The performance is open to all and is free of charge. However, the interested need to book seats in advance at website www.kf.or.kr/nanta.jsp.
