Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee TPCC Chief Spokesperson Dr Dasoju Sravan alleged that the Election Commission of India appears to be infected with some pink disease and therefore, it wants to have everything in next Assembly election in pink colour
Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Spokesperson Dr. Dasoju Sravan alleged that the Election Commission of India appears to be infected with some 'pink disease' and therefore, it wants to have everything in next Assembly election in pink colour.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Sravan said that the ECI first came up with a proposal to set up 'pink' polling booths for women. After Congress objected to it, it dropped the proposal and now issued orders for printing of 90 lakh ballot papers in 'pink' colour. He said that 'pink' was the official colour of TRS party and it appears that the ECI wants to influence the voters in the polling booth by having ballot sheets in pink colour. He said the Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and Deputy Secretary issued GO No. 1605 on October 26, the Election Commission has ordered printing of 90 lakh EVM ballot papers and 70 PSM.
Alleging that the Election Commission of India was repeatedly making attempts to support the ruling party, Sravan said the only thing left for the ECI is to directly campaign for the TRS.
Sravan strongly objected to the silence adopted by the ECI over open violation of Model Code of Conduct by the ruling TRS. He said despite several representations to Chief Electoral Office Rajath Kumar, no action has been taken to stop those violations. He expressed fears that conduct of elections in a fair and free manner look impossible under the present ECI.
The Congress leader strongly condemned inaction against the Intelligence Officials who indulged in tapping phones of Congress leaders. He said that the ECI has failed to perform its duties of Custodian of Indian Democracy by allowing the officials to act as per the wishes of caretaker CM K. Chandrashekhar Rao. He said some police officials were harassing the leaders of Congress and other opposition parties by checking their vehicles and other means. Opposition leaders are being harassed by initiating action by digging old cases.
Sravan also demanded action against Director General of Prisons Vinoy Kumar Singh who called reporters of a news channel 'Commercial Sex Workers'. He said V.K. Singh was apparently angry on an investigative report which was aired on HMTV news channel. If he was not happy with the contents of the report, then he should have lodged a complaint with Press Council of India or Indian Journalists Union. However, V.K. Singh issued a letter called the reporters as 'Commercial Sex Workers' which is highly objectionable.
He reminded that it was KCR who had set the trend of targeting media in filthy and abusive language. He said while addressing a meeting at Warangal, KCR had threatened to bury a news channel beneath 100 feet pit. V.K. Singh has just emulated KCR in insulting media, he said.
