Pvt engineering colleges cock a snook at Governor’s diktat
The managements of private engineering colleges in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States have devised new ways to circumvent the directions of Governor E S L Narasimhan to cleanse the educational institutions of fake certificate holders working as faculty members
Hyderabad: The managements of private engineering colleges in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States have devised new ways to circumvent the directions of Governor E S L Narasimhan to cleanse the educational institutions of fake certificate holders working as faculty members.
It may be mentioned here that the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H), following the directions of the Governor, launched a drive to weed out fake degree holders working as faculty members in its affiliated engineering colleges.
What shocked the JNTU-H officials is that a section of those working in its affiliated colleges are also working as faculty members in private engineering colleges affiliated to Jawharlal Nehru Technological University-Anantapuram (JNTU-A).
Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official from the JNTU-H said that they are yet to verify whether these are only isolated cases. The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) was a single unit in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Following the bifurcation of the State, it was reorganised into three units- JNTU-H, JNTU-A and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Kakinada (JNTU-K). While JNTU-H, the headquarters of the erstwhile JNTU remained in Telangana, the remaining two units JNTU-A and JNTU-K are in Andhra Pradesh.
Following this, each of the JNTU has their own official machinery for the academic audit and evaluation wings for the verification, inspection, monitoring, and renewal of affiliation and ratification of the faculty members working in private engineering colleges affiliated to each of the JNTU. Taking advantage of this, some of the faculty members are shown as working in private engineering colleges affiliated both JNTU-H and JNTU-A. This is how some of the colleges have been getting away with the verification and ratification of faculty members for the purpose of renewals and accreditation processes, he added.
As per the new information, a faculty member working in the Electronic and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department of Sri Ramanujam Institute of Technology (SRIT) in Anantapur, affiliated to the JNTU-A is also working in the ECE department of Siddhartha Institute of Technology and Science (SITS) Narapally in Ghatkesar, affiliated to the JNTU-H. One more faculty member name has been working in the mechanical engineering departments of both the colleges located in Hyderabad and Anantapur.
Similarly, another faculty member working as a professor in the department of civil engineering at Chiranjeevi Reddy Institute of Engineering and Technology, (CRIET), Anantapur affiliated to the JNTU-A has been found working in a private engineering located in Ibrahimpatanam and affiliated to the JNTU-H. On the top of it all, the JNTU-H is yet to figure out the action to be taken against nearly 15 to 20 faculty members for discrepancies in their doctorate degrees. Besides, those who had obtained their postgraduate degrees from the Vinayaka Mission University and others considered not valid, the sources said.
