Cherlapally: As part of Prisoners Welfare Day on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Telangana Prisons Department held a variety of programmes on the premises of Cherlapally Central Prisons on Tuesday morning. The function was graced by BS Jagjeevan Kumar, Metropolitan Sessions Judge cum First Addnl. District Judge, Cyberabad and M Johnson, Principal Senior Civil Judge cum Chief Judicial Magistrate.

Addressing the programme, both of them laid emphasis on better behaviour and concern for the family outside the jail. Prizes were distributed to meritorious prisoners for their participation in various indoor and outdoor sports events like cricket, carrom board and chess. The Lions Club, district 320 C also used this occasion to distribute spectacles to prisoners.

On the initiative of Lakshmi Narasimha, retired dy superintendent, Chanchalguda Jail and ably supported by Superintendent of Cherlapally Central Jail, MR Bhaskar, team Dakshin Dhwani organised a musical hungama for the inmates, which was interspersed with dances by young invitees and comprised a good mix of melodies including patriotic songs and popular Telugu and Hindi film songs. The inmates danced, clapped and enjoyed the high octane performance of the team who responded with live music and acoustic-friendly audio tracks.
