Basar: Three students of IIIT, Basara who were fasting for better conditions in the university have fallen sick on Tuesday afternoon.
They were immediately admitted in the campus hospital and were administered saline.
About 6,000 students boycotted food since morning pressing several demands and seeking solutions to their problems from last eight hours.
Demands include appointing a regular vice-chancellor, changes in the examination system and supply of quality food.
Following their protest sit-in at the main gate, officials declared a holiday and closed the mess.
Heavy police force was deployed on the campus. The officials also cut water and power supply to the hostel.
Vice-Chancellor Ashok told The Hans India that he was prepared to concede the students’ demands.
He found fault with the students for resorting to a demonstration even after an assurance was given to solve their problems.
The VC accused some students of deliberately inciting others. He warned that an inquiry would be instituted against those inciting students.
Ashok sought to justify the closure claiming that it was done to ensure that the students’ agitation did not go out of hand.
He assured that steps were being taken to stop attacks on students by security personnel.
Ashok stated that they have requested government to appoint a regular VC.
He assured that ‘we are also ready to change the examination pattern. Steps are being taken to appoint the required faculty.
To solve the water supply problem a new pipeline will be laid. Changes will be made in menu to ensure supply of quality food’.
