Hyderabad: Maggam, a handloom fashion show, to showcase Telangana weavers’ talent across the country will be inaugurated at N Convention on Thursday.
Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Giriraj Singh will inaugurate the show, which is being organised by the Centre for Bharatiya Marketing Development (CBMD) to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and to support the cause of handloom apparels.
Over 1,500 people, mostly sporting handloom, will grace the show to support the cause.
Muralidhar Rao, national general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party, told The Hans India that the objective of the show was to showcase the talent of Telangana weavers to the nation.
“They can do wonders if given an opportunity and encouraged. They have so much talent that they can weave a saree that can fit in a match box.
We would like to showcase their talent and abilities to world and prove that they are on par with the best through this show,” he added.
Weavers from several clusters such as Gadwal, Siddipet, Kotthakonda, Uppada, Mahadevpur and Mangalagiri etc will be invited to the show.
“We found that the major reason for non-popularity of handloom products is its limited availability and negligible communication/ publicity.
That is why, we have chosen a fashion show to get Telangana weavers an exposure nationally,” says Muralidhar Rao.
