Governments unleashing violence against intellectuals: Members of Civil Liberties Committee
Attacking the leadership of State and Central governments over the recent arrests of the human rights activists and intellectuals of civil societies, the Telangana Civil Liberties Committee TCLC, took a jibe at the attitude of the governments in dealing with the intellectuals
Mahbubnagar: Attacking the leadership of State and Central governments over the recent arrests of the human rights activists and intellectuals of civil societies, the Telangana Civil Liberties Committee (TCLC), took a jibe at the attitude of the governments in dealing with the intellectuals.
The members of the CLC while speaking at a meeting in Mahbubnagar district on Sunday alleged that both the State and Central government to divert the people’s attention from their failures and wrong policies have unleashed violence against the innocent people and intellectuals who are fighting peacefully to defend the human rights of the marginalised and suppressed in the country.
Voicing his concern Professor Laxman, President of CLC said, “Innocent Adivasis are being killed in the Dandakaaranya in the name of ‘Operation Green Hunt’. Not just that, even in the urban areas the central government is encouraging the few groups to lynch innocent people in the name of cow protection.
There are increasing incidents of honour killings, where inter-caste marriages are not spared and killed in the broad day light. All these incidents clearly reflect the mindset of the government and their favour for upper caste domination”. Another main speaker Pasham Yadagiri of CLC alleged that the government is adopting suppressive methods against the civil societies and
intellectuals whoever is trying to raise their voice against it or pointing fingers at their failures. The government framed policies that are against the interests of the poor. They are following capitalists’ policies and selling off all the natural resources in the country to the multinational companies and depriving the poor of land, water and employment.
“The entire government machineries are serving the interests of the rich, the powerful upper caste and political leaders. There is no one to think about the interests of the poor and the downtrodden in the government. If in case anyone raises their voices, then they will be branded as terrorists and anti-social elements and are being arrested. This kind of autocratic rule is very dangerous for the sustenance of democracy.
Therefore, there is a need for the people to realise all these things before electing the new government. It is possible only when we raise our voices and stage a fighting approach. Sitting idle will fetch nothing but further strengthen the fascist forces,” said Raghavachary another keynote speaker at the meeting.
