Khammam: Marking the end of 11-day long festivities, the immersion of Ganesh idols took place on a grand scale amid tight security arrangements here on Sunday.

The Shoba Yatra was held at 2.30 pm under Stambadri Utsav Committee after the meeting was held at Gandhi Chowk and a grand farewell was given to nearly 1,000 Ganesh idols.

A large number of devotees from surrounding areas gathered to participate in the festivities.Representatives of the Stambadri Utsav Committee along with officials made all the necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of Shoba Yatra.

The Revenue and Municipal officials and the police made elaborate arrangements at the main immersion point near Munneru wagu. Traffic was diverted to facilitate smooth conduct of immersion process.

Devotees bid for traditional sweet at Ganesh pandals. They believe that the laddu will bring prosperity for the bidders. In Sattupalli, the local businessman Vangari Rakesh won the Laddu in the auction for Rs 7.05 lakh at Ganesh pandal on the premises of Ganapathi Temple near JVR park. Siravati Srinu of 15th division in Khammam city won the laddu in the auctioned for Rs 30,000.

Former MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar, City Mayor Dr Papa Lal, District Collector R V Karnan and Police Commissioner Tafseer Iqbal, Additional DCP Muralidhar, ACPs Venkat Rao, Sada Niranjan and Municipal Commissioner J Srinivas and Stambadri Utsav Committee representative Vinod Lahoti
were present.
