TRS stands to gain in Khammam district

Khammam: Khammam district is considered as the political nerve centre of south Telangana and may become game changer to some of the political parties in the upcoming Assembly elections.

As the district is very close to Vijayawada, the people’s lives are interwoven with the Krishna and West Godavari districts of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

The TRS party is trying to retain its strong hold in the district whereas the Congress and Left parties along with TDP are trying hard to regain their lost glory in the district.

The voters in the erstwhile district are well aware of their geographical identity and are preparing themselves to elect suitable candidates and go for parties that will strive hard in all round development of the district.

Scenario of Political Parties in the District :

TRS:
The ruling party has emerged as very strong force in the district between 2014 and 2018. Out of ten MLA’s in the district, seven are from the TRS. However, out of seven only two MLA’s who won on the party ticket from Kothagudem and Palair constituencies. The remaining five MLAs are those had won on other parties tickets later switched their loyalties to the ruling party(((three YSRCP and two from Congress).

The TRS party which fielded all the 10 members in the erstwhile district managed to win just one Assembly seat in the district that is from coal belt area Kothagudem despite sweeping elections in almost entire Telangana. After death of Ramreddy Venkat Reddy, the TRS party bagged the Palair constituency in bypolls.

For coming up Assembly elections, with announcing candidates for all the 10 constituencies, the TRS party has launched political campaigns and is ahead of other parties in the district

Congress:
On the other hand, the Congress which had strong presence in the district and managed to improve its tally from the previous three Assembly seats to four in the district in 2014 Assembly elections, lost two of its members to the ruling TRS party.

Former Minister Ramreddy Venkat Reddy in Palair, and TPCC working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka in Madhira retained their seats along with winning comfortablly in Khammam by Puvvada Ajay Kumar and by Koram Kanakaiah in Yellandu. But Puvvada Ajay Kumar and Koram Kanakaiah joined the ruling party.

YSR Congress:
The YSR Congress party which surprised everyone across the State by bagging three ST reserved Assembly seats—Ashwaraopet(Thati Venkateshwarlu), Pinapaka (Payam Venkateshwarlu) and Wyra( Banothu Madan). But all the three MLAs joined the TRS. The Party is striving hard to keep its identity in the district intact.

TDP and Left parties:
The TDP which contested the elections alone had managed to won just one seat while the CPM party which contested from three Assembly segments (Palair, Madhira and Bhadrachalam) had won only Bhadrachalam seat.

The Congress, TDP and Left parties are yet to decide about their political alliance and come to an understanding regarding their seat sharing. About 10,41,297 people who enrolled their names in the voters list till date in the five constituencies of the Khammam district are going to decide the fate of the candidates and parties in the district in coming up Assembly elections.
