Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) State unit on Wednesday held an emergency meeting and discussed the strategy to be adopted for the forthcoming assembly elections. The issue of Common Election Manifesto for Mahakumati (grand alliance), formed between the Congress, the TDP and the CPI recently, and seat distribution were discussed in the meeting.

Sources said that TDP Telangana unit President L Ramana informed the leaders that the finalisation of the seat sharing between the three partners will be done in the next meeting organised on Sunday. The TDP had been demanding 30 Assembly seats, out of 119, for the party. The Congress is ready to give only 15 to 20 seats where the TDP is strong enough. However, the seat allotment will be done only after the TDP leaders meet party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu.

Leaders said that Naidu summoned a group of leaders to Amaravati on Saturday to discuss the issues to be highlighted in the common manifesto of the grand alliance. A decision on joint election campaign by the Mahakutami partners will also be finalised in the same meeting.

Speaking to media after the meeting, party senior leader E Peddi Reddy alleged that Maharashtra government served non bailable arrest warrant on Naidu in a bid to malign his image before attending the international seminar organised by United Nations in New York this month end. He also said that Governor ESL Narasimhan had failed to get the withdrawal of the arrest warrant against Naidu. He wondered why no case was registered against Naidu at the time of agitation against Babli project, but arrest warrants are being served now.
