Hyderabad: The driver of the bus which was involved in an accident on Tuesday at Kondagattu, which took the lives of nearly 54 persons, reportedly had a record in accidents. A bio-data of driver B Srinivas which surfaced on social media on Wednesday shows his record with accidents. Though the bio-data has no official confirmation yet, it is being widely circulated on social media.
According to the bio data, though Srinivas was given the best driver award recently, he was involved in accidents on several occasions. He was appointed on May 13, 1998 and was suspended once and was reinstated on his request on June 10, 2008. He was involved in fatal accident at Manthany depot on November 12, 2006 and was suspended on December 12, 2006 and later removed from services on June 29, 2007.
After his re-entry into the job, he was involved in major accident at Metpally depot. One increment was reduced for a period of two years for running over a pedestrian on right side of the road which injured the pedestrian’s legs. He was again involved in major accident at Metpally depot on May 24, 2013 and was suspended. Sources said that the driver was doing duty for three days continuously.
Meanwhile, the TSRTC Incharge MD Sunil Sharma on Wednesday directed the RTC officials to identify alternate route for safe travel of the passengers for buses at Kondagattu in coordination with other departments. The MD called an urgent meeting with the regional managers and reviewed measures taken up by the corporation in wake of the accident near Kondagattu. The MD inquired about the steps being taken by the Corporation to avoid accidents involving Corporation Buses.
He suggested the regional managers to instruct all the Field Managers to take steps like counselling the drivers every day on precautions to be taken to avoid accidents while on duty, to review the speed limits of the buses and regulate them, if necessary, to conduct training classes to all drivers involving Police, Traffic and other experts on road safety to make them aware of the safety measures.
With regard to the Tuesday's accident, the MD formed a Committee with Police, R&B, Transport and RTC personnel to analyse the cause for the occurrence of accident and to suggest remedial measures to avoid such type of accidents, in future. He also directed the RTC Officials to identify alternate route for safe travel of passengers for buses at Kondagattu, in coordination with other concerned departments. He instructed the R&B personnel to erect barricades / railings at the accident spot and also at other places wherever necessary.
