Many claimants for Congress ticket from Jadcherla constituency
With Congress is yet to take a final call on its candidate from the Jadcherla MLA constituency in Mahbubnagar district, there are many claimant of the party ticket from this constituency
Mahbubnagar: With Congress is yet to take a final call on its candidate from the Jadcherla MLA constituency in Mahbubnagar district, there are many claimant of the party ticket from this constituency.
During the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district, Jadcherla constituency used to be the stronghold of the Telugu Desam party and TDP leaders Yerrasatyam, Yerrasekhar would represent this constituency for more than 20 years up to 2004.
However, soon after the formation of the TRS in 2001, and subsequent elections in 2004 this constituency was taken over by the only TRS candidate Dr. C Laxma Reddy, from southern part of Telangana.
However, after TRS chief KCR’s call to give resignations of TRS MLAs for pressing the demand of formation of Telangana State, Dr. Laxma Reddy was the first in the party to tender his resignation in 2008.
But, during the subsequent bi-elections, Laxma Reddy lost to Dr. Mallu Ravi, from the Congress party. After 6 months when the General Elections were held again Mallu Ravi was defeated by Yerrasekhar of TDP and TRS party did not give ticket to Dr. Laxma Reddy as part of an alliance with TDP during the 2009 general elections.
Dr Reddy, despite being denied the ticket supported KCR to help him win Member of Parliament from Mahbubnagar district and this gained lot of good will for Laxma Reddy from the TRS chief.
And later after formation of Telangana in 2014, as expected Dr. Reddy was again elected from TRS as MLA from Jadcherla and as an obvious chance he was directly inducted into KCR’s Cabinet as Energy Minister and later as Health Minister.
All said and done, now after 4 years of TRS rule, there are divided opinions of public about the TRS rule and taking this as an advantage, Congress leaders are strongly pitching internally to get the Jadcherla MLA seat so that they can test their chances in the troubled waters, which many political experts are favoring towards Congress.
According to internal sources of Congress, Mallu Ravi, who was earlier pitching high for the Jadcherla constituency MLA ticket is expected to get MP seat from Nagarkurnool, while Jadcherla seat is either to be given to Revanth Reddy or Yerra Sekhar. However, nobody from Congress has confirmed this.
“In the event of TDP Congress alliance, there are chances that the Jadcherla seat will be either given to Revanth Reddy or Yerrasekhar. However, the winds are blowing in favour of Revanth, while TDP candidate Yerra Sekhar is expected to contest from the Mahbubnagar constituency,” said internal sources of the Congress party from the district.
