The Kanti Velugu programme launched in Kottapally village of Midjil mandal on Wednesday witnessed as many as 153 people visiting for the screening of their eyes
Mahbubnagar: The Kanti Velugu programme launched in Kottapally village of Midjil mandal on Wednesday witnessed as many as 153 people visiting for the screening of their eyes.
Most of them who were men and women above 50 years said that the new healthcare scheme by the government is a very good novel scheme. They appreciated that the government is holding camps right in their village and screening the eyes and providing them free eye glasses.
“Indeed the Kanti Velugu programme by the government has really brought new light to our eyes. We never dreamt that we would have our eyes treated before we die, but thanks to Chief Minsiter K Chandrasekhara Rao, who has thought about our healthcare and conducting camps in our own village and that to providing glasses free of cost to all those having eye defects,” said Parvathalu, a 56-year-old patient while thanking the Chief Minister for launching such a novel programme.
Deputy District Medical and Health Officer Dhanunjay along with Vamshi Priya, Mandal Medical Officer of Midjil, who had come for inspecting the functioning of the free eye camp in the village, expressed happiness that the medical team at the village was functioning well, however, he was concerned about the low turnout of the people from the village for the eye screening camp.
“We have set a target of at least screening 200 people in every village, but despite our maximum efforts to mobilise and publicise about the programme, the turnout from the people is slowly decreasing,” expressed Concern DY DMHO.
While that was on the negative side, however, the positive side about the programme is that all those who attended the programme were expressing happiness for they have been given the new light for their eyes.
“I have been suffering from eye sight and eye defects since past 2 to 3 years, despite repeated request to my family members nobody was showing much interest or priority to take me to an eye doctors. But with this eye camp being hosted in our village, I had got the opportunity to get my eyes checked up and that too free of cost. I am happy the officials have given me the spectacles on the spot,” observed another patient Anusha.
Talking about the organization of the programme Health Supervisor Shakuntala said, “Today we had set a target of conducting screening tests of 221 people in the village, despite of our efforts to mobilise most of the people have abstained due to various programmes like Bonalu, some functions and other personal reasons.
As against 221 we could conduct screening to 153 people in the village until evening. Of them we have ordered 45 special glasses with different points of eye sight, while 54 patients were given glasses available with us at the camp.” Krishna Kumar, Camp Medical officer, Dr. Vamshi Priya Mandal Medical officer, S. Suresh Opthalmist, ANMs, Asha workers etc took part in the free eye camp at Kottapally.
