Malakpet: Two schools of the much touted Telangana Minority Residential Schools housed in jerry-rigged building at Saleem Nagar colony, Malakpet, pose hazard to over 400 girl students from Saidabad and Barkas mandals.
In the recent days, portion of the slab caved in posing risk to the students.
Representation from the school teachers to Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) did not evoke any response.
Poorly refurbished floors and staircases supported by thin railings with the objective of striking a two-years of contract with the landlords, raises doubts of the stability given huge number of students staying in the building.
The Schools being run for girl students of Saidabad and Barkas by TMREIS from the academic year 2016-17 was actually planned for housing students from three mandals including Charminar, but the third one was shifted to another place. Both schools run at the rented building and were started in 2016-17.
According to sources, this private building was refurbished with a patchwork and jerry-rigged work of 2nd and 3rd floor for the purpose of renting to the school.
The building is constructed by temporary roofing with support of readymade iron pillars and railings.
The steps are supported by thin railing and within two years, the structure appears to be inadequate to support the huge number of students, even as the window panes are broken were built in a peculiar fashion.
“Recently portion of the slab caved in, which continue to pose risk to the students,” said the source.
Jameel Fatima, Principal (Outsourcing) of TMRIES Barkas Section, said that the building was taken for rent in 2016 after the owners of the building assured stability of the structure, but the entire structure appears to be refurbished with patchwork and constructed with the sole purpose of renting.
“As claimed by TMREIS, this building does not reflect the tall claims of the world-class standards.
We staff members gave a report to the TMRIES officials about the building condition and dairy farm being run by one of the owners below the building.
Besides this, there are not enough water supplies to support more than 400 students. Power disruption and lack of alternative mechanism adds to the woes of the schools.
The officials have asked us to find another place to relocate both the schools,” she said.
She also said that no fresh air and sunlight passes into building owing to the odd design the building was constructed.
“The building is endangering school students”, added the principal.
