Hyderabad: The two day ‘National Waste Alternate Conclave – Sustainable waste Management practices’ to be organised in the city from August 27 is aimed to find solutions to the increasing burden of waste in the State particularly in the rapidly growing Municipal Corporations and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said.
Ahead of the conclave, the official told The Hans India, which is also media partner for the event, that only 10 per cent of the waste is being recycled in the developing countries and the rest was left as dump in the urban areas. In the developed countries, 90 per cent of the waste was recycled by using advanced and innovative technologies. The urgent need is to draw the attention of the concerned urban administration on the treat of growing waste.
It is high time the urban local bodies should adopt available traditional and non-traditional innovative technologies to address the menace of the waste. In the traditional practice, kitchen wastage will be converted into organic compost and use it for farming purpose. In the non-traditional technology, kitchen waste will be converted for the use of power and gas generation which help to meet the local energy demand.
The official also worried about the growing threat of piling up of the electronic waste in the cities. It required a separate mechanism and technology to deal with the e- waste locally. Reddy said that the conclave will deliberate extensively the new technology and the role of urban local bodies in the containing the waste problem.
Policy makers, officials and industry will interact on best practices, methods, innovations, technologies and other important topics in the domain of sustainable waste management focusing on RRR (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) formula.
Elets Technomedia Pvt Ltd, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Telangana government to achieve the dream of National Cleanliness Mission - Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, are jointly organising the conclave.
The GHMC official said that the conclave will be a step ahead in tune with the vision and spirit of GHMC, Telangana government and Government of India towards the Cleanliness Mission and to curb the use of single-use-plastics and bring in eco-friendly alternates to wastes besides sustainable waste management practices.
The GHMC will also showcase the corporation’s endeavour in the effective waste management. The conclave will also focus on the role of private players and organisations, and their collaboration with the government through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in addressing the waste.
