Hyderabad: Obviously to score a point over the ruling TRS, which has been putting a spoke in the wheel in the tour of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, the PCC has brought in the martyrs’ factor to the fore. The Congress has planned a visit of Rahul Gandhi to Gun Park, where the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial stands near the Assembly on August 14. This move is intended to exploit the Telangana sentiment.
It may be noted here that the TRS government has denied permission to Rahul Gandhi to visit Osmania University, the epicentre of the Telangana movement. The PCC thought a meeting of Rahul with the students of the university, who spearheaded the Telangana movement, would help in turning the students’ sentiment in Congress’ favour. The OU Vice Chancellor denied permission for Rahul Gandhi’s meeting denting the spirits of the Congress. The leaders of Osmania students have planned to move the court to secure permission for Rahul’s visit. The PCC has planned a meeting of Rahul at Osmania University a few months ago.
It wanted to bring Rahul Gandhi to the university as soon as he took over as president of the party. But it was postponed several times. Though finally it has got the opportunity to take Rahul to OU, the government denied permission for the same.
With this, the PCC had decided on a Congress president’s visit to the Martyrs’ Memorial to check the ruling party’s moves. Rahul would visit the memorial at Gun Park on August 14 at 3 pm and would pay tributes to the martyrs. The PCC leaders visited the Gun Park on Friday and took stock of the situation there. A leader of the party said the programme which was not there in the earlier schedule has been planned to check the ruling party’s moves.
There is no need to have a permission to visit the Gun Park and they have decided to take Rahul Gandhi though the programme was not included in the earlier schedule, the leader said. On the other hand, the Congress has finalized the schedule of Rahul Gandhi’s visit on August 13 and 14 and included a public meeting at Saroornagar on August 14 to the earlier itinerary. The public meeting has been named “Nirudyoga Garjana”. This has been planned also as a substitute to the OU programme for which the authorities have denied permission.
According to the schedule, the Congress president would arrive at the Shamshabad airport on August 13 at 2.30 pm, greets the visitors from 2.30 pm to 2.45 pm. He would travel from Shamshabad to Rajendranagar by Congress’ campaign bus, and address the SHG women from 3.15 pm to 4.15 pm.
Rahul Gandhi would reach Serilingampally at 5.15 pm and would address the public meeting from 5.15 pm to 6.15 pm. He would make a night halt at Haritha Plaza.
On August 14, he would address Congress party booth committees through teleconference between 9 am an 9.15 am. He would have an interaction with editors of print and electronic media between 10.30 am and 11.30 am and attend a meet with businessmen at Hotel Taj Krishna between 12 pm and 1 pm.
After lunch, Rahul Gandhi would reach Gun Park at 3 pm and would reach the Exhibition Grounds to address a meeting of small traders. He would reach Saroornagar stadium at 5.30 pm and address the public meeting. He would leave for Delhi at 8.30 pm.
