Mahbubnagar: The international conference on ‘Chemistry for Sustainable Future’ by the Department of Integrated Chemistry of Palamuru University began at the university auditorium here on Tuesday.
Vice-Chancellor of PU Rajaratnam, who presided over conference, lighted the traditional lamps to mark inauguration of the conference. While speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of chemistry in everyone’s daily life.
He recalled the historic importance of chemistry in human life and how its evaluation had changed the entire human society of the present day. “Ever since the birth of mankind, Chemistry as an academic subject and research platform, has been playing a vital role in the sustainable progress of the world.
He felt that unscientific deforestation, use of huge polluted metals are leading to imbalance in the environment, Prof Neil Robertson from Edinburgh University, UK, who was a special guest, said that the human world had been pushed into a great crisis where everyone - from common men to a great scientist, was forced to strive hard for sustainable development.
“Particularly the ruling classes, scientists and universities should work towards sustainable progress and by doing this only we can protect our agriculture, environment, and health sectors,” pointed Prof. Neil Robertson. He also advised the younger generation to make use of this conference for better ideas for their future research.
Prof I Panduranga Reddy, Registrar, of PU, the guest of honour on the occasion observed that science and technology instead of enabling sustainable growth are now being viewed as most dangerous elements destroying the very nature in which humans are living.
He said it is high time that scientist and researchers explored ways and means to ensure that these important inventions of mankind are better used for sustaining the future generations rather than making them adversaries.
Prof T P Radhakrishanan, Dean, School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad, spoke Prof N Y S. Murthy, Convener of the conference, Prof Pindi Pavan Kumar, Dean, Dr Jailpal Reddy, Principal University College, Organising Secretary of the conference Dr N Chandrakiran, Dr Vijaylaxmi Vice- Principal, Dr N Kumaraswamy PRO-PU and researchers and students took part in large numbers in the conference.
