​Hyderabad: To make the civic administration reach people’s doorsteps, Telangana state government has reorganised the entire Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The total number of zonal offices have been increased to 12 from 6 and the circle offices will be 48 from the present 30. While, the zones will also be increased to 6 from 5 in the corporation limits.
After the revamp, every two assembly constituencies will come under a single zone. The total number of Assembly constituencies in the GHMC limits is 24 covering the parts of old Rangareddy, Medak and Mahbubnagar districts. To meet the required manpower in the new zones and circles, the government sanctioned 1,610 posts.
Principal Secretary to Municipal Administration and Urban Development Arvind Kumar said that it is decided to create 12 zonal offices so that there is one zone with a coterminous jurisdiction for every two Assembly constituencies. This will enable elected body representatives to work closely with the zonal team and it will yield better coordinated development results. Each zone will have 4 circles.
The official said that the new 1,610 posts will be filled soon and Rs 146.86 crore will be allocated additionally from the GHMC funds to meet the expenditure to run the newly-created zones and circles every year.
Arvind Kumar said that one more new zone is created in addition to the existing five zones by adjusting the existing staff of the corporation in view of urgency to rationalise administration for better efficacy.
