​Hyderabad: The State government on Friday announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the parents of the children killed in New Century School shed collapse and Rs one lakh to the injured children. Announcing the ex-gratia on behalf of the government, Kukatpally MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao said that that the government was also bearing the expenditure of the students undergoing treatment in hospitals.

Krishnarao said that the government will provide admission to 170 students pursuing their education in New Century School in another 11 schools to ensure that their academic year is not lost. Earlier, as the dead bodies of the deceased children Mani Keerthana and Chandana reached the school, high tension prevailed in the premises. The parents and the locals along with Student Organisations staged a protest against the police. They demanded the immediate arrest of School Correspondent Venkateshwar Rao who is absconding.

While responding the parents of the deceased students, Madhapur DCP A Venkateshwar Rao said that a case was registered against the school management and the care taker of the school Venkatesh was arrested. “Three teams are on the look-out for school Correspondent Venkateshwar Rao and very soon he will be in their custody and will be punished according to the law,” DCP said. After the incident, the memo issued to the DEO and MEO is suspended. District Education Authorities seized the school.

Medchal District Collector M V Reddy spoke to the Education Officers and Police and ordered them to make alternate arrangements for the children to continue their studies. Without incurring additional financial burden on the parents they have been given a chance to study in 11 schools which are available locally. The parents can be given an option for private schools or government schools. For that, the District Collector decided to conduct a meeting with the School managements in a couple of days.

On the other hand, Municipal authorities issued notices to the school management and are planning to demolish the school. R Santosh of Students Federation Of India (SFI), Medchal District demanded for immediate suspension of the District Education Officers and the Municipal officers. During protest, they gave a bandh call for educational institutions in the district on Saturday. Meanwhile, Balala Hakkula Sangham gave a petition to the Human Rights Commission on the school shed collapse. They requested to file a criminal case against the district education officers and Municipal officials for their negligence.
