Rains fill Godavari to the brim, hit Kaleshwaram project works
While Godavari is brimming with copious inflows, heavy rains in the last two days have disrupted the ongoing Kaleshwaram project works, with works at Medigadda and Sundilla coming to grinding halt
Hyderabad: While Godavari is brimming with copious inflows, heavy rains in the last two days have disrupted the ongoing Kaleshwaram project works, with works at Medigadda and Sundilla coming to grinding halt.
Concrete works are in progress at the project sites, while the earth works are stopped. The works will be resumed only after the project sites are relieved from rains. Bridge works at Sundilla are going on, but gates will not be erected until water levels recede in the river.
Black cotton soil used in the earth works has to be dried up to resume works. According to officials, the works can be resumed only after a couple of days. They maintained that halt in earth works will not delay in achieving the targets set by the government as works would be taken up in double shifts.
As per official reports, Sripada Yellampally project received 30,650 cusecs of water as inflows and over 6,050 cusecs was discharged till Monday evening. Water level in the project touched 464 feet out of the total capacity of 485 FRL (Full Reservoir Level).
The project has been receiving heavy inflows from the Kadem project. In another major project, Sriramsagar, the water levels also touched 1,058 feet with the continuous inflows of 1,900 cusecs.
The capacity of the project is 1,091 FRL. Heavy rains in the catchment areas of Godavari and huge inflows from the upper riparian State, Maharashtra have been filling the reservoirs this monsoon season.
If the river receives good inflows with continuous rains for another three days, water required for irrigation purpose in the ongoing Kharif and Rabi seasons will be met. Drinking water needs will also be addressed with the available water in Karimnagar and Warangal districts.
