Take over aided education institutions, say student unions

Hanamkonda: The representatives of Democratic Student Union (DSU) and Telangana Vidyarthi Sangham (TVS) demanded the State government take over completely all the aided educational institutions present across the State. They submitted a memorandum to District Collector here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, DSU leader Martha Avinash said some of the villagers have donated their land for establishing educational institutions hoping to get quality education for poor students of rural areas.

A few people formed societies with the help of government established (Aided) educational institutions in such places. At present, around 720 schools, 48 junior colleges, 55 degree colleges were set up in these donated lands. All these institutions are running successfully and are providing education to lakhs of students.

He alleged that the Telangana government was trying to hand over such institutions to private sector, which may force poor students to discontinue their studies as the private sector may increase the fees. Moreover, a few society members are trying to register the land donated by the villagers and the buildings on their names, he alleged.

The government must roll back its decision of handling over aided educational institutions to private sector. Otherwise, the student unions will launch severe agitations to teach a lesson to the government, he warned. Student leaders Sai, Raju, Sameer and others were present.
