Hyderabad: Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K Taraka Rama Rao on Saturday warned Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) corporators of stern action if they are found indulging in irregularities. The Minister directed the corporators to work in coordination with the officials or else the government would not hesitate to dissolve the GHMC council.
According to highly placed sources, KTR held a closed-door meeting on Saturday with the TRS corporators and civic body officials. The meeting was intended to put in place a more responsive system of governance in the city. The corporators accused GHMC officials of not cooperating with them and not sanctioning works for their respective wards.
Sources said KTR lambasted TRS corporators for making allegations and warned that they would be sacked if they interfered in removal of encroachments on nalas. Corporators also complained that the Minister was not meeting them regularly.
KTR unequivocally told the corporators that they should short out the problems being faced by them by seeking help from city Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy. When the corporators demanded that their salaries be enhanced to Rs 1 lakh, KTR is understood to have asked them, “Are you surviving on salaries given by GHMC? The government will definitely look into the matter.
Do not indulge in any irregularities. I have received several complaints from many sources against many of you and the government will not hesitate to dissolve the GHMC council if they are repeated."
The Minister exhorted the corporators to take initiative in development activities and convince citizens of the need to dismantle encroachments on nalas to prevent inundation of several parts in the city.
He also directed the corporators not to try to threaten the GHMC staff while they are discharging their duties. The corporators should work hand-in-hand with the staff for development of the city, he said.
