Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to construct a 17-km-long underpass from LB Nagar to Sangeeth Signal in Secunderabad. The civic body has already conducted a feasibility study and would soon prepare a detailed project report (DPR) on the underpass to be built under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).
Besides this, the corporation has also decided to construct another underpass from Tarnaka to Lalapet flyover.According to a GHMC official, under the SRDP Package IV, the civic body has earlier decided to construct grade separators and elevated corridors from Uppal to Rasoolpura junction with Rs 160.07 crore.
However, the project has been halted due to land acquisition and other technical problems. This was even discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao.
The official told The Hans India that the underpass will minimise the land and property acquisition. He said the corporation will have to acquire as many as 800 properties to construct grade separators and elevated corridors and huge chunks of land. "By constructing the underpass, the property acquisition can be minimised to 200 and need to acquire only 20 acres of land near the Survey of India," he said.
The GHMC official said the civic body has already written a letter to the Centre in order to acquire land from the Survey of India and is likely to get a positive response.
He said the GHMC would construct another underpass from the English and Foreign Languages University in Tarnaka to Lalapet flyover in order to ease the traffic congestion. He said a feasibility study for the underpass is under way and will prepare a DPR at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the civic body will complete the SRDP Phase I in five packages. Package I includes multi-level flyovers and grade separators at six junctions -- KBR Park Entrance, Maharaja Agrasen Jn (Road No 12), Film Nagar, Road No 45 Junction, Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction and Cancer Hospital Junction (Road No 10 Junction).
The total cost of the Package-I is around Rs 322.92 crore. Package II includes LB Nagar Junction, Bairamalguda Junction, Kamineni Hospital Junction on the Inner Ring Road and Chintalkunta Check Post Junction (Rs 331.38 crore). Package IV includes the construction of multi-level Biodiversity Park Junction, Ayyappa Society Junction, Rajiv Gandhi Statue Junction and Mind Space (Rs 196.13 crore). Package V includes the construction and improvement of grade separators or flyovers at Owaisi Hospital and Bahadurpura (Rs 86.21 crore).
