Highlights

Model Schools are the schools having infrastructure and facilities of the same standard as in Kendriya Vidhyalayas and with stipulations on pupil-teacher ratio, ICT usage, holistic educational environment, appropriate curriculum and emphasis on output and outcome.

Model Schools are the schools having infrastructure and facilities of the same standard as in Kendriya Vidhyalayas and with stipulations on the pupil-teacher ratio, ICT usage, holistic educational environment, appropriate curriculum and emphasis on output and outcome. These model schools are established with English medium at Secondary level in educationally backward Mandals in the State. So far 194 schools were sanctioned, of which 182 schools are functioning with the classes VI to Intermediate. Construction of remaining 12 schools is in progress and they will be functional from the academic year 2016-17.

In order to provide residential facilities to girl students studying in Model School, Government is constructing one girl hostel with a boarding strength of 100 in each identified educationally backward Mandals in the State. So far, 194 Hostels were sanctioned, of which 102 are commenced from 2015-16 onwards and remaining are proposed from 2016-17 academic year.

Mid Day Meals Scheme:

The Scheme was introduced with an objective to increase the student enrollment, attendance and eliminate classroom hunger by providing nutritional food during mid-day. In continuation of the existing scheme, the State Government has extended it to 9th and 10th classes. Mid Day meals are being served with super fine rice to all the students and also providing egg/ banana twice a week to improve the nutritional standards of the students. 27.15 lakh students are being benefitted during 2015-16.

Achievements during 2015-16:

• 3 new primary schools are opened where there is no school inhabitations.
• 2 residential schools and 12 residential hostels are functioning for out of school children.
• Academic support is being provided through 467 Mandal Resource Centers (MRCs) and 1766 Cluster Resource Centers (CRCs).
• Computer Aided Education is being imparted in 1516 upper primary schools under innovations.
• All 391 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalayas are operational with 70,700 children.
• 21.5 lakh children were provided with 2 sets of uniforms.
• 2,232 summer camps for 90,540 children were organized across the State to improve their learning levels.
• Provided transportation charges to 15,406 children coming from inaccessible areas.

Intermediate Education

There are about 2,991 Junior colleges functioning in the State, of which 398 are Government, 43 Private aided, 2,546 Private & others and 4 Government vocational junior colleges.

Free Education to all the students studying in GJCs:

State Government has taken a decision to provide "Free Education" to all the students studying in 2 years of Intermediate Courses in Government Junior Colleges as a part of its commitment to provide free education from KG to PG. As a result of this, admission in 1st-year intermediate courses has increased considerably from 68,573 in 2014-15 to 81,422 in 2015-16. The total admissions in 2 years of Intermediate Courses are about 1.5 lakh during 2015-16 as compared to 1.4 lakh in the previous year. The government is supply free textbooks to the students studying in GJCs from the academic year 2015-16.

Collegiate Education

There are 127 Government Degree Colleges and 69 Aided Colleges functioning in the State. Two more colleges were sanctioned in 2015-16 at Sitaphalmandi, Hyderabad, and Jadcherla (W), Mahaboobnagar to be started from the academic year 2016-17. The total strength of students enrolled during 2015-16 is about 1.5 lakh students, of which 85,896 have been enrolled in Government colleges and 59,338 enrolled in aided colleges. During 2015-16, 24 new courses in Post graduation, 27 in Restructured Undergraduate Courses and 24 in Conventional Undergraduate Courses have been sanctioned.

Technical Education

There are 263 engineering colleges, 220 Polytechnic colleges, 41 MCA colleges, 313 MBA colleges, 144 B. Pharmacy colleges and 12 D. Pharmacy colleges are functioning in the state. During 2014-15, Government opened (i) eight new Government Polytechnics colleges, (ii) three new JNTU constituent engineering colleges at Sultanpur (Medak), Jagtial (Karimnagar) and Manthani (Karimnagar), and (iii) two Engineering colleges at Kakatiya University, Warangal (exclusively for Women) and another at Mahatma Gandhi University of Nalgonda district. Government sanctioned a Government Polytechnic College for Minorities at Badangpet of Ranga Reddy district.

Inclusive Education

Inclusive education means that all students in a school, regardless of their strengths or needs in any area, become part of the school community. They are included in the feeling of belonging among other students, teachers, and support staff. The schools have a duty to educate children with disabilities in general education classrooms.

The government of Andhra Pradesh is committed to accomplishing the objectives of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and adhered to the approach of inclusion in implementing programmes for Children with Special Needs with a strong belief that achieving education for all without the inclusion of these children, is not a reality.
