Online shoppers, the Republic Day sale on Amazon, Flipkart and Paytm Mall may be the best time to avail good discounts. Before the government dictates the new policy guidelines around e-commerce, the two bigwigs are holding their first big sale of the year. As always, its discounts are in abundance. The new policy comes into effect from February 1. Here we have listed 10 reasons why you should not miss shopping from Flipkart, Amazon and other e-marketplaces this Republic Day.
Discounts are high during Diwali sale
Online platforms are offering discounts as high as those during peak Diwali season across several categories, ahead of the government’s revised FDI policy.
Some brands are in rush to clear inventory
By providing higher discounts among online-focused smartphone and electronics brands there is said to be a rush to clear inventory.
Last few days to enjoy perks of Amazon Prime membership
This may be the last few days to enjoy free deliveries for Amazon Prime members. Under the new policy guidelines, free deliveries may be deemed unfair and discriminatory. Both Amazon and Flipkart offer free deliveries as they have their logistics arm in place. The same may not be provided under the new policy.
No clarity on the extension of January 31 'deadline' making e-commerce companies 'jittery'
Marketplaces have not been able to get much clarity on an extension of the February 1 deadline. Both Walmart-owned Flipkart and Amazon are lobbying with the government to extend the February 1 deadline.
Discounts have never been so attractive
According to industry executives; discounts were never so attractive during Republic Day sales. There is a possibility that brands which have no offline presence could be in a rush to clear inventory.
Smartphones brands offering big discounts
Some of the smartphone brands that are offering the best discounts include Samsung, Honor, RealMe, Vivo, Xiaomi and Asus. The discount on most Honor smartphones ranges between Rs 3,100-9,800.
Realme C1, Nokia 6.1 Plus, Oppo F9 and Samsung Galaxy On8 are available at ‘best-ever’ prices
Realme C1 is available at discounted price of Rs 6,999 in the Flipkart sale
Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone is selling at Rs 13,999, post-discount. Samsung Galaxy On8 can be purchased at Rs 12,990. Oppo F9 can be purchased at a discounted price of Rs 16,990.
Vivo is also offering discount
Vivo is giving a discount on some of its smartphones up to Rs 5,000
How consumers’ Flipkart, Amazon party may end
New FDI rules to be applicable from February 1. The policy has several rules that may end consumers party on e-commerce websites. These include all sellers who have equity participation from the e-commerce marketplace or its group companies are barred from selling. This means, for example, Cloudtail can’t be a seller on Amazon, unless the company ends its equity partnership. Similarly, there’s also a 25% restriction on any seller buying products from Amazon or Flipkart's completely-owned wholesale companies. As this helps them offer better discounts. Online-only exclusive deals between brands and e-marketplaces too have been banned. This means Amazon-OnePlus kind of deals also may not be possible.
