Here is the list of top five biggest smartphone merchants in the world. The quarterly list of IDC’s research company also includes the names the highest-selling smartphones during the past quarter from these companies. The report states that a total of 355.2 million smartphones were sold during the third quarter of the year 2018, resulting in a year-over-year decline of 6%.
1. Samsung:
Most sold phones - Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy A-series
Samsung maintained the top position during the third quarter of 2018 but saw a decline in shipments by 13.4% when compared to Q3 2017. It shipped a total of 72.2 million handsets. While the Galaxy Note 9 smartphone continues to build on shipments, the Galaxy A-series helped the company to fill the gaps.
2. Huawei:
Most sold phones – P series and Mate series
Leaving behind Apple, Huawei retained its second spot in the list of top 5. This Chinese technology company sold a little less number of smartphones by 15.9% when compared to last quarter. The company shipped a total of 52 million devices in Q3 2018.
3. Apple:
Most sold phones - iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR
Apple is at the third place this quarter as well in spite of launching three new iPhone smartphones -- iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. The company shipped around 46.9 million smartphones, which is up by 0.5% from last year (46.7 million units).
4. Xiaomi:
Most sold phones-- Redmi 5A, Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi Note 5, Redmi 6, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 Pro
Xiaomi’s Redmi series persisted to gain good numbers for the company as it captured 9.7% market share worldwide during the Q3 2018. The Chinese handset maker is prominent in countries like India, Indonesia and Spain.
5. Oppo:
Most sold phones-- Find X, R17
Chinese smartphone brand Oppo too maintained its 5th position with a total shipment number of 29.9 million in Q3 2018. The number is less by 2.1% from last year. The report adds that the design for Find X and R17 raised the bar for Oppo.
