Thirst for good literature

Samuel Putnam's remark is so right that “In translation, language facility is not enough: blood and sweat are secret". It is really a tough job to translate a literary piece because the translator has to put in plain words about the original writer’s idea in his/her words without disturbing the essence of the theme. Swatee Sripada definitely falls under that category of an accomplished translator and an eminent writer. She worked as PGT in English in Kendriya Vidyalaya and later took VRS, however, she never took rest from literary service.

She had started writing from her childhood since 1963. Her first story ‘Jaki’ published in 1969 Vasudha Magazine. She has proved her mettle in the arena of writing and participated in many literary events to bag many awards from her school days by proving her prodigious talent.
From 1969 t0 74 her stories found their place in all reputed Telugu magazines. She hasn't confined to write not only stories but also poetry. Her first anthology of poetry ‘Vchourasta’ emancipated as a cyclostyled book in Nizamabad in 1973 with the works of three other poets. She has won accolades for her literary abilities at that time and specially mentioned by a renowned magazine ‘Mahathi’ as a very studious and established writer though she was a student writer.

Swatee Sripada is a rarity in the arena of literature and acquired a good reputation as a translator. She has translated Kiran Bedi's ‘I dare’ into Telugu which was serialised in Andhrajyothi weekly in 1997-98. She has translated ‘Raghavashishtyam’ of Bhoyi Bheemanna and some parts of the Constitution of Ambedkar for Telugu University. Her novels were serialised in web magazines like Koumudi, Malini, Vihanga and Telangana Sahityam. Presently, one of the novels which have won first prize in the Vakati Pandurangaram Story competition running as serial in Jagruthi web magazine. She is also rendering her service as an editor for web magazine" Vaakili". It is really an awesome fact that in the case of Swatee Sripada she is also participating in radio programmes such as AIR Aksharashilpalu, poetry recitation and in story presentation for nearly three decades. This reflects her devotion towards literature and literary activities.

Swatee Sripada has participated in unapproachable literary meetings and poetry meetings. Her contribution to the National poet's symposium is valuable and she has translated many works of poets belonging to both Telugu states into English. She is still supporting the Prasar Bharati of Door Darshan with her translations and providing scriptwriting for national local programmes of Doordarshan. She did many translations for National Book Trust (NBT) and Sahitya Academy from English to Telugu and vice versa. It is a very praiseworthy and exceptional work from Swatee Sripada who has translated the folk songs of all the districts of Telangana into English for Prasara Bharathi. She is also eminent in creative writing and provided content for many organizations. It is very peculiar to mention her translating abilities because she hasn't confined to only literature but did the same for agricultural crop research works into Telugu. Her novels have won the praise of Telugu literature lovers and critics for their simple and precise in message giving nature. Her works mainly focus on the contemporary plight of the woman and the societal behaviour towards the women tribe.

She won many awards like Best female story writer 2012 award from Potti Sreeramulu University, Apuroop award for the first story writer of Nizamabad, Mahatma Phule Talem Award for Literature and Translation, Lekhini Award for translation, Dr Tenneti Hemalatha Vamsee Sahitee Puraskaram 2015 and many more.
