Born in Madurai, and based in Hyderabad, Vijayaraghavan S is a visual artist, video artist, painter and photographer. From an innate private space, he tried to exploit the potential of socio-political, personal and emotional expressions raised over self-ideology and consciousness through his artworks. Vijayaraghavan recently displayed his works at a group exhibition titled 'Redeeming the Elusive' in New Delhi.
About his works, he says, "During this exhibition, I intend to unfold the sheets of imagery containing the menace of urbanisation through the images of the human body becoming the topography of urban sounds, boredom, automobiles, communication and so on. I have used my own body parts in my coherent body of artworks which reflect our unconscious being, colonised by motorisation, mechanisation and urbanisation, deforming the habitual and the mundane. I have attempted to externalise the schizophrenia of the contemporary every day. It is our voice to regenerate, re-create, re-question the human ethos and attitude in the urban scenario."
The title of his artwork is close to the thematic exhibition 'Redeeming the Elusive’. He says, "I am representing what we are losing day by day in human life and through my body of artworks and symbols used, I try to regenerate, re-create, re-question the human ethos and attitude in the urban. Also, it has strongly connected with socio-political and cultural in a local context."
"Apart from painting, I have experimented with video art, stop-motion animation and digital artworks moreover, I am considering these are the tool of medium to express the creative artworks. My prime concern about how the conceptual ideas transformed into work of art and how it’s creates an impact on the diverse audience with various perspectives," he shares.
His works are based on ‘synthesised’ blend of photography, painting and drawing, about that he says, "Photography is a part of my art practice and most interesting element in the photography which I have used in the mixed media purpose and I try to influence from static to animate and snapshot to static. So most of my works are a blend of photography, painting and drawing."
