​Tirupati: The three-day mega sports event NIDJAM (National Inter District Junior Athletic Meet 2018) has witnessed 12 records in various events. It was the first time in the history of NIDJAM that so many records were registered. In this Athletics Meet Madhya Pradesh topped the medals tally with seven gold, one silver and bronze each while Tamil Nadu followed it with four gold, six silver and four bronze. Andhra Pradesh stood at 8th place with two gold and one bronze whereas Chandigarh bagged only one bronze medal.
Speaking at the valedictory function of 16th edition of NIDJAM, Collector PS Pradyumna expressed satisfaction as they organised the event without any problems to athletes. “We wanted to conduct the Meet with a bench mark and succeeded in our efforts. About 5000 athletes and coaches from 436 districts in 28 states have participated in the event whereas 2500 Physical Education Teachers (PETs), volunteers, doctors and medical staff, Police and others have worked hard to make it a success”, he said.
He added that they are ready to make arrangements to organise the event year once the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) gives an assurance. People’s representatives and sponsors have come forward and cooperated in all aspects. Among the participants 91 percent have expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made through the App.
AFI Secretary General CK Valson lauded the efforts of district administration in providing all facilities and make it a successful event. The Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been hosting the event at Visakhapatnam for the last three years and this time he cooperated in organising it at Tirupati. Chittoor MP Dr N Siva Prasad has stressed the role of sports in everyone’s life and congratulated all the sponsors for their cooperation. Tirupati MLA M Suguna, ZP Chairperson S Geervani, Municipal Corporation Commissioner V Vijaya Rama Raju, Sub Collector Dr R Mahesh Kumar, TUDA Secretary K Madhavi Latha, SAAP Director Sridhar Varma and others have participated.
