Karimnagar: Sri Vijayanaama Ugadi festival was celebrated on a grand note in the district on Thursday. A Government Whip Arepalli Mohan participated in the festivities held at Revenue Gardens in the town along with MP Ponnam Prabhakar, MLA Gangula Kamalakar, MLC Santhosh Kumar, former MLC Naradasu Lakshman Rao, District Collector Smita Sabharwal , Joint Collector H Arunkumar, State Fisheries Cooperative Society chairman K Krishna Reddy, DPRO P Srinivas, Endowment Department supervisor Supriya and other officials. The programme was jointly organised by District Cultural Society and Endowment Department.
Vedic pandit Mangalampalli Srinivasa Sarma read out Panchangam for the Telugu New Year, explained the future predictions and gave their blessings for the welfare of people. Specially prepared Ugadi Pachadi and sweets were distributed to the participants by the pundits.
The leaders felicitated Vedic pandit and priest of Sri Rajarajeswara Swamy temple at Vemulawada Ojjala Rajana Sarma, Mangalampalli Srinivasa Sarma and Alli Bhuvaneswar on the occasion. They also extended their greetings to the people. They hoped that there would be adequate rains in the district in the new Telugu year. Farmers and other sections of people would be benefitted, they hoped.
Adilabad: The people of the district celebrated Ugadi festival with enthusiasm. A large number of farmers got up early in the morning, went to their agricultural fields and performed poojas praying to gods for prosperity in the new year. Later, they started their farm works for the new season.
In urban areas in the district, devotees thronged the temples in large numbers seeking blessings of the deities. People listened to the `Panchanga Pathanam' by pundits to know about their prospects in the new year.
Members of Hindu Jana Jagruti Samithi (HJJS) conducted special programmes in Adilabad to mark the celebrations. They distributed Ugadi Pachadi to the people at Bus Station and other places. The Samithi coordinator Chetan Janardhan has said that every Hindu festival has a reason for its celebration. ``Ugadi Pachadi, which is a combination of different ingredients with different tastes, is useful for good health,'' he said.
MLA Kaveti Sammaiah hoisted a flag at Munnuru Kapu Bhavan at Kagaznagar in Adilabad district to mark Ugadi festival on Thursday. He expressed his wishes to the people of the town. He hoped that there would be good rains and farmers would prosper in the new year.
Nizamabad: On the occasion of Ugadi festival, a Kavi Sammelanam programme was held at New Ambedkar Bhavan in the town on Thursday. District Collector Christina Z Chongthu, MP Madhu Yashki, Nizamabad Urban MLA Yendala Lakshminarayana, Joint Collector Harsha Vardhan and other officials participated in the programme.
Earlier, pundits conducted Panchanga Pathanam (reading of Panchangam). Ugadi Pachadi was distributed to the participants. The festivities were also held at other places in the district.
