KERALA: Rivers overflowed, sections of highways collapsed and many homes were swept away in severe flooding in half of Kerala. Army has been deployed to help evacuating people.
At 8:00 am this morning along with CM Pinarayi Vijayan, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan, DGP Loknath Behra and chief secretary started to visit the flood hit areas in helicopter.
From 2401.10 feet on Saturday morning, the water level at Idukki dam has come down a bit and there is not much increase in the water level at rural Ernakulam and Kalady.
It is observed that the devotees performing Bali, an annual ritual for people who passed away, at the banks of Periyar river at Aluva. The collector of Ernakulam launched ‘inform/alert collector’ interactive on Facebook. Idukki reservoir level is 2401.04 ft. Water released is 750 cubic metres per second.
Only one dam shutter has been opened in Idamalayar dam. Thus water released has come down to just 100 cumecs or 1 lakh litres per second.

The bad weather stopped CM’s chopper to land at the government college ground at Kattappana, Idukki.
The CM announces ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 10 lakh compensation to those who lost their houses and land.
