Amit Shah made BJP President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firmed up his grip over the party machinery by appointing his Man-Friday Amit Shah as the new BJP President.
- He will report to Modi initially, until he becomes full-fledged chief when the term of Rajnath expires in 2016
- He was the choice of Modi and RSS
- His next job will be to win M’rashtra and Haryana elections for the party this year-end
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firmed up his grip over the party machinery by appointing his Man-Friday Amit Shah as the new BJP President. “Shah,” meaning the ruler, will however, take decisions only after taking the nod of his supremo, expecting to renew his candidature after one-and-a-half years, when the term of his predecessor Rajnath Singh expires.
He is expected to take over the reins of the party once again in 2016, ensuring that the next parliamentary polls are contested under his stewardship of the party. Rajnath Singh had to quit as BJP President much before his term expires, as he has been appointed Home Minister in the presentregime. Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Amit Bhai started his journey as an ordinary karyakarta and has repeatedly proven himself through his tireless hard work and determination. I would like to specially thank Rajnathji for his great leadership, under which the party scaled new heights of success. With the blessings of party elders and selfless efforts of karyakartas, BJP's mission of creating a strong and developed India continues.”
Amit Shah, like Narendra Modi, is an RSS pracharak and by picking him, the Sangh has ensured that there is no rift between the party and the government in the near future. The decision to anoint Amit Shah as the BJP president was taken at the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting attended by the top-brass of the party. Since Shah was the final choice of Modi and the RSS, no other leader dared to question his candidature. Any decision of the party will now automatically reach Modi through Shah, thus keeping the Prime Minister in the loop on all important developments in the party.
Through Amit Shah, the RSS is keen to continue the winning spree by extending it to the Assembly polls in Maharashtra and Haryana, both Congress-ruled States, where elections are due later this year. It was due to his hard work and diligence that the BJP for the first time managed to sweep the elections in Uttar Pradesh by securing 71 out of 80 seats in the Lok Sabha.
Though names of J P Nadda and Om Prakash Mathur were also being taken for the BJP president’s post, Modi had indicated his preference for Amit Shah, confident that he could take the party to victory in the States going for polls in the near future.
