I consider this as one of the best articles of Dr Mohan Kanda under "Talking of many things" column touching about EBC quota. Yes it is true that 10 years quota system to certain sections in the society was initially introduced and subsequently all the central and state governments could not assess its implementation and the same system is still continued till date in their anxiety to continue in power. In the process of increased population all the weaker sections in the society are demanding some provision for them too in education and employment.
And hence the importance of 10% quota to EBCs is a reasonable demand which is pending for the last 30 years. The present government assessed the need and a bill was passed with majority amending the Constitution too.
Now it is strange on the part of all the political parties who voted for the amendment criticising in different forums and making political atmosphere vicious. This is unpardonable. I do agree with the columnist for the review of the reservations sometime time or the other with an in-depth study to withdraw after some level of their upliftment.
I also suggest that free education should be given to all the sections in the society with a stress to bring all the poor and downtrodden at least till 10th class which will be a right approach in the present circumstances.
In these matters political one-upmanship should not counted or weighed much. Too much criticism on these matters either by the political parties and elite should be avoided. Particularly at the time general/ parliamentary elections. People are the better judges on all these matters.
It is also foolish to point out every time about employment in the govt. sector. This is a foolish point too. Our country is predominantly an agrarian economy. Hence employment creation should be in agriculture and private sector and not craving for Govt.jobs. It is here all the political parties are playing with common man. Job creation is important. Whether it is in agricultural sector or others is not at all important. Let us not stress on Govt. Jobs. In the present-day circumstances there is every scope for self- employment in every sphere of activity. Let us move forward in that direction
