Address voter list complaints

It is essential to understand that the main challenge for our electoral democracy is not voter fraud, but voter participation. In a democratic set-up voters are the masters of law makers who shall have undisputable faith in the right election process. It makes a saddening reading that about 20-30 lakh voters in Telangana and another 20000 voters in MP have their names impromptu omitted in the electoral rolls .Amazingly, news is doing round that Rohingya Muslims ,having no locus standi are included in voters list in Hyderabad. Reasons are immaterial as deprivation of right to franchise is a pointer of robbing away the ability of many qualified electors to vote. It’s, therefore, an inalienable responsibility for the Election Commission to look into complaints and rectify the list failing which ’Democracy’ will be reduced to’ Doom-cracy’. - Seetharam Basaani, Hanamkonda
