It is a very proud moment for Indian sports to witness the fabulous feat of boxer Mary Kom in the recent World Boxing Championships, where she matched the record of Cuban legend Felix Savon with a record tally of six gold medals and a silver medal (Magnificent Mary lifts record 6th god, THI No 25).
There is no doubt in saying that Mary Kom is one of the greatest boxers in the world and her name will be etched in golden letters in the history of boxing.
Even though she is from a very poor family of tenant farmers in Manipur, her strong willpower, perseverance, and love for the game brought her to this stage.
Continuing in the sport of boxing for 18 long years itself is a great accomplishment, and being a mother of three, achieving numerous great and unparalleled feats are incredible and phenomenal.
This kind of achievements would break the stereotypes about women in Indian society, where the majority of the women are not allowed to pursue their career and follow their passions after a certain point of time, especially after marriage, be it academics or sports.
It would encourage women to follow their passions and work towards their goals.
