London:A new exhibition ‘Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams’, that showcases designs that have featured in over 100 films and been worn by top Hollywood divas, opens on Saturday, February 2 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
The show will run through July 19, wrote The Hollywood Reporter.
The collection that will be on display ranges from 1947, the year after the French couturier officially debuted his luxury fashion brand, and runs to the present day.
Designs from the label have been worn by Rita Hayworth, Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich among others.
Current Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri recently dressed Lady Gaga in a fringed ivory taffeta haute couture evening gown for the 2019 SAG Awards. She also dressed Charlize Theron in an elegant black-and-white gown for last month’s Golden Globes. Chiuri is the sixth artistic director following Dior’s death in 1957.
There are supposed to be over 500 archival pieces in the exhibition, that includes 200 rare haute couture gowns and Bar suits gifted to the museum in 1960. It will also showcase hats, shoes, handbags, perfume, cosmetics and other accessories as well as sketches, fashion photos, magazines and even some of Christian Dior’s personal possessions.
According to reports, notable pieces include a dress on loan from the Museum of London that Dior custom-made for Princess Margaret to wear on her twenty-first birthday in 1951, and the dazzling gold-sequined dress of hand-painted organza with rainbow hues that actress Jennifer Lawrence wore on the red carpet last February at the London premiere of the Francis Lawrence film 'Red Sparrow'.
