In 1990 Tim Berners- Lee invented the world wide web And since then, the Internet took the world by storm. we are at point where imagining life without the internet does'nt even seem possible. And how far one goes to access the internet?
Oh, it's everywhere. Contained within rectangular, shiny screens, the internet makes us believe everything is just a tap away. And because of all this information available to us, we've become extremely attatched to it.
we get everything on this rectagular screens, we learn latest internet trends, read articles that will blow our minds, look at the images of places we'll never visit, upload photos of literally every movement.
It's a miracle shower selfies aren't a thing yet! we shop via digital medium because the choices are just so vast, learn all about sex by watching porn, search about our ailments on it only to believe we're dying of something grave.
Every single person in today's world in becoming a social media activists without really indulging in activism. We're watching one episode after another only to feel anxious when a show ends and we're scrolling, scrolling and scrolling. In fact, you're doing it right now.
In today's generation Social media is become such an integral part that even before we brush our teeth, we go through all social media apps that our phones can store. Ever spent some extra thirty miniutes in the bathroom because you couldnt stop scrolling? We're all gulity of it. Our phones have become so important in our live's that one is totally alright with losing their wallet but on losing their phone would make them go into an anxious tizzy state which would make them hunt down the lost device almost like we're looking for a lost piece of their heart.
And Don't You Think It's True? After All, That Rectangular, Shiny Screen Contains And Revolve Our Whole Life.
Within just roughly three decades of its invention, the internet has gotten us into a habit that we don't even know is destroying us: over consumption. In fact, we dont realize that we're over consuming information and data because we're so busy doing it! However, recent studies and researchers are proving how dangerous this over consumption can be.
DID YOU KNOW THAT RESEARCHERS RECENTLY IN CANADA CONDUCTED A STUDY WHICH PROVED THAT SMARTPHONES HAVE DEFINITELY REDUCED OUR ATTENTION SPAN. A STUDY PUBLISHED IN JOURNAL OF SOCIAL AND CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY STATES THAT THERE IS, IN FACT, A CORRELATION BETWEEN HIGH USE OF SMARTPHONE AND DEPRESSION AS WELL AS ANXIETY.
As we are scrolling and scrolling we are totally confused as to what to link to open next because of the abundance of choices and hence, our memory can't hold information. We're scrolling even when we're sitting with friends and family, becoming antisocial. In the name of communication, we're actually communicating a whole lot less and hence, the depression brough on by the feeling of loneliness.
However, for your mental well- being, it is imprortant you keep that phone away. Take regular digital detox sessions. It is an addiction. It is obsessive. However, it's just a rectangular, shiny screen and you have to find the will power to use it a whole lot less than you do. May sound difficult but really, you were living a good life before smartphones IS'NT IT?? before internet happened? YOU'LL SURVIVE!
