Hyderabad: Digithon Digital Yatra which is being conducted by Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) with an aim to provide digital literacy to the students of government schools has taken off successfully. Telangana IT Director Dileep Konatham flagged of the Yatra of 150 techies starting from Hyderabad to Wanaparthy on Friday.
On the first day of the initiative, students were exposed from computer basics to key applications of technology. Videoconferencing was held with foreign students. Techies who stayed in student hostels spent time with students at the campfire. The district collector Shweta Mohanty appreciated the efforts of TITA's Digithon Digital Yatra.
TITA is conducting a two-day programme to impart digital literacy to school students of Wanaparthy district on February 16 and 17. The goal is to train 12,139 students in 137 schools of the district. The district collector and DEO provided all the support from the government's side.
Under the digital literacy training, the students are given exposure to computer basics, creating email accounts, using Google search etc.
Through videoconferencing, the students in Wanaparthy interacted with students of Johannesburg in South Africa. South Africa TITA chapter president Kishore Vulluri along with Telugu teacher Raghu interacted with the students here. Following this, the students also interacted with the students of Mexico. Mexico TITA vice president Ramesh told the students about the education framework in Mexico. In addition to this, American Football Association Secretary Banda Ronith with his seven-member group interacted with the students.
As the 150 techies stayed in student hostels on Saturday night, they held 'Chat over Campfire' with students and discussed various topics of interest.
The District Collector appreciated the efforts of the techies who are taking part in this initiative under the leadership of TITA President Sundeep Kumar Makthala.
Speaking on the occasion Sundeep said this is a rare opportunity to spend time with students by staying with them in their hostels. With a strong belief that students of government schools are no less than those studying in the private schools, TITA wanted to impart digital literacy programme to these students so that it will aid them in their future. With good infrastructure and quality faculty, students of government schools can have a bright future.
