Giant Water Fight Held In The Streets of Myanmar

From April 12 on, Myanmar is celebrating Thingyan, the annual water festival in Southern-East Asia which marks the Buddhist New Year. For five days, the people spray each other on the streets of the country, as a token of purification.

Thingyan is comparable to other New Year festivities in Theravada Buddhist areas of Southeast Asia such as Pii Mai in Laos and Songkran in Thailand.

It usually falls around mid-April it is celebrated over a period of four to five days.

The festival is also about gathering together as a family and prayers.
