Hyderabad: Incessant showers since Sunday night and all through Monday threw normal life out of gear in Greater Hyderabad. Several places reported slow movement of vehicles. Commuters struggled with grid locks at almost all major X roads in the city. The problems for the commuters started right from the Monday morning. School students faced problems and were drenched when they reached their respective schools. In some areas due to morning hour traffic, several school buses were delayed and arrived late.
Stagnated water at many places in the city resulted in slow movement. Adil, a resident of Marredpally said, “Usually it takes me one hour to reach office, but on Monday it took me 90 minutes. It was bumper to bumper.” According to Traffic police officials, traffic jams at Ameerpet, SR Nagar and the road leading towards Kukatpally due to several works such as metro rail and road widening works.
Right from LB Nagar X road to Uppal X road and LB Nagar to towards Koti Traffic moved at snail’s pace. Traffic jam occurred for some time at Moosarambagh TV tower X road when commuters from Amberpet came in high frequency. Commuters approached several street roads to reach on time to their destinations.
Same situation was seen at Mehdipatnam and Tolichowki roads. With the buzzering of horns the commuters tried to move fast from the traffic lights. Buses witnessed high frequency today. In the central zone the commuters waited for long to cross the traffic signals. Right from the Lakdikapul to Khairatabad and from Punjagutta to Ameerpet vehicles formed a queue to move at snail’s pace.
At Taj Krishna Hotel vehicles take a long time to move. As it is a VIP movement road traffic police men worked hard by changing the traffic signals accordingly to avoid traffic jams. In Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Hitech city, Madhapur and in Gachibowli areas the problems increased when software and MNC companies cabs took to the roads. From Madhapur, Hitec city to Kukatpally road witnessed a heavy traffic in the evening hours to late night as thousands of vehicles touched the main roads. Even on city Fly overs the vehicles moved slowly. Telugu talli flyover, Nagarjuna circle and Begumpet fly overs several traffic jams seen for minutes.
From Secunderabad to different areas traffic moved slowly. At Jubilee Bus stand and Bowenpally towards Y junction of Kukatpally heavy traffic was seen. At many places on this main road water was stagnated due to which vehicles moved slowly there by causes heavy traffic jams. Several vehicles broke down in the city which created problems for the traffic police to clear the jams.
As Metro works are going on Mojamjahi market and Nampally station road, traffic moved slowly due to which commuters spent more time on the traffic signals. GHMC emergency teams have been pressed into service to clear water logging and facilitate smooth flowing of traffic in several areas of the city.
A greater percentage of city dwellers took leave on Monday as it is raining from the morning hours.
