Punjagutta: ‘Stop Over-Pricing in Theatres’ the notion sounds promising but the tale of upmarket in cinema halls and multiplexes continues to remain the same. The rules are either neglected, violated or intelligently altered by the multiplex and cinema hall managers.

Cinema halls and multiplexes continue to sell eatables at inflated prices

As per the norm of Legal Metrology Department, the multiplexes should sell products at MRP and drinks sold in loose containers should mandatorily have stickers with rate and measurement. But the malls in Hyderabad continue to sell products at prices of their will. For instance, PVR at Next Galleria mall in Punjagutta continues to sell the products without any pricing or measurement labels. PVR manager, Amit Mehta said “There are no changes in the price, nor are we aware of any new rules.” Anyways, we are giving a discount of 40 per cent on foods and beverages for two days. A worker at the store Kaveri (name changed) said “Sales have come down for the past few days, but there are no changes in pricing or labelling.”

While the price of two samosas at Asian mall is increased to Rs 60, reads the sticker in the name of quality. Commissioner of Legal Metrology and Director of Enforcement Akun Sabharwal in a recent meeting said that the multiplexes and cinema hall owners have to implement new rules from Wednesday.
