Parigi: On the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the Mission Bhagiratha officials have stepped up the pace of execution of the drinking water supply project works to provide drinking water to all households through taps by August 15 this year. Meanwhile, a 231-km-long trial run of Krishna water from Yelluru (Nagarkurnool district) to Jafarpalli (Vikarabad district) via Gudupalli, KarkalPahad and Kammadanamwas conducted on Friday.
The water reached the destination in two and half hours. Residents of Jafarpalli, Parigi and adjoining villagers rushed to see the gushing waters at the treatment plant and captured the scene on their mobile phones and some other enthusiasts clicked selfies with the water forming the backdrop. The Mission Bhagiradha project works in Vikarabad, Parigi and Tandur Assembly constituencies neared completion and also the works in the Nawabpetmandal. Water treatment plant at Jaffarpalli has been built at a height of 690 feet from the mean sea level. The water will get distributed to homes from 45 water storage tanks built at various places in the district.
Vikarabad District Collector Sayyed Omar Jaleel reviewed the progress of the works accelerating the execution. The state government incurred over Rs 1,080 crore expenditure in the Mission Bhagiratha drinking water project. As the trial run was successful, the officials heaved a big sigh of relief. They started inspection of the pipelines to check and plug the leakages, detected if any. They are confident of supplying drinking water from the midnight of August 14. The officials also commenced purification of the water in the plant, which has a captive electric sub-station.
Water from the treatment plant at Jafarpalli will reach Tandur by sheer gravity as the treatment plant is located strategically at an elevated site. The residents of Parigi will get water supply from the water reservoir under construction at Kallapur, near Parigi. Currently, arrangements have been made to supply drinking water to 442 villages in Parigi Assembly constituency. The drinking water will reach Kodangal in the first week of August. The officials are executing works in full swing acting on the directions of the Chief Minister.
