Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is giving special training to its workers in restoring the rain-damaged roads in the twin cities. Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy issued orders to ensure training of the GHMC workers for maintaining the required standards in filling the potholed roads. His action follows the observation by Mayor Bonthu Rammohan that due standards were not being observed by the municipal staff.

The civic body has constituted 384 special teams to overcome the varied problems caused by the rains. Members of these teams, who are temporary appointees, are being imparted special training in repairing roads and filling up of potholes. All the workers who are members of the emergency teams are being trained by engineers in BT mixing and assessing temperatures, how much road to be dug, steps sans use of water.

Meanwhile, Dr Reddy stated on Friday that 90 per cent of the potholes on over 4,000 roads from July 1 till date have been filled up. He instructed the GHMC engineers to take up the balance work on a war-footing basis. The commissioner stated that he and Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar have been holding special review meetings with officials to repair the damaged roads zone-wise on a war-footing.
