City gets ODF certification for second time
Hyderabad: Hyderabad was declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) in December last and as per the norms, the ODF recertification takes place every six months and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) got successfully recertified as ODF city.
To arrest open defection, GHMC has been imposing and collecting fines from the defaulters.
The fine collected from April till now is Rs 1,01,700 and to create awareness among citizens GHMC had initiated wall paintings, latti seati, signage boards and others.
To achieve the target of “Swachh Hyderabad” under Swachh Bharat Mission, GHMC constructed several categories of toilets across the city like BOT, Pre-fabricated, Sulabh, Engineering and SHE toilets (e-toilets).
Also, as per the guidelines of SBM, GHMC has constructed 2,135 nos of IHHLs (Individual Household Latrines) for families who could not afford to construct their own toilets.
GHMC has further constructed Community toilets wherever there was no specific amenity to construct IHHL.
The department recently inaugurated modernised public toilets called Loo Cafe at Jubilee Hills, this type toilet facilitates like coffee shop, free Wi-Fi to public, feeding room for new mothers and GHMC was planning to install such type cafes at 150 locations i.e 30 per each circle.
Apart from all the above, GHMC has also gathered consents from about 259 Fuel Station and 257 Restaurants across the city, for utilization of their toilets by public.
