Baghlingampally: The residents of Baghlingampally have been complaining about the Sundaraiah Park losing its charm as it was turning into a playground and as a result, the aged were not finding space to spend time.

In the 50s and 60s, the place was famously referred as tamarind park or ‘chinta thota’.

P Narahari, social analyst and a resident of Baghlingampally, says, “The authorities should stop children from playing.

The park not so long ago had a variety of plants and greenery but now the park has several patches where plants and grass cannot grow due to continuous sports activities.”

The park located in the midst of Baghlingampally helps in controlling pollution and serving as a much-needed lung space.

Manohar VK, a retired engineer from the irrigation department says, “With the mushrooming of apartments all around, this is the only lung space available and there is a need to protect the park.

It is also true that playgrounds are hard to find but the park needs to be given priority.”

Locals are also complaining about the dust pollution as the grass no longer grows and due to playing of children in the park, the place becomes dusty.

The park authorities maintain that many parents insist that the children be allowed to play as there are no open spaces.
