Yellamma Temple, one of the oldest sacred sites on the Balkampet Main Road, will get freedom from traffic congestion issue shortly; as the local authorities have taken account of the matter and assured that it will be deciphered imminently. The Temple continuously experiences traffic indiscipline issues owing to lack of proper parking facility and inappropriate attitude of auto rickshaw drivers towards traffic rules.
According to the Temple authorities, around 2,000 people visit the holy place daily and on peak days the figure increases to 10,000. “There is not a single parking spot in the vicinity. People are helpless and park their vehicle on the road, which ultimately causes encroachment and creates traffic congestion,” said the authorities.
Taking into cognizance of the situation, Corporator of Ameerpet, N Seshu Kumari suggested measures to overcome the problem and has agreed to put the agenda into the general council meeting of GHMC. “I, along with Cabinet Minister T Srinivas, am planning to hold a meeting with Temple authorities and there is one vacant land near the temple, which could be used as parking area,” she said.
“We are trying to acquire the said land for parking space along with a building behind the temple for reducing the crowd. In addition, necessary traffic measures will be undertaken to divert vehicles from the main road as soon as possible”, she added. MV Sharma, Executive Officer of the Temple said, “After the proposal by corporator, we are hopeful to get a proper parking spot in future.”
