‘T’-Radio Waves High, Telangana Radio, Osmania University, Banagaru Bathukamma. A 1996 batch pass out student of Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Rajkumar who hails from Hanamkonda in Warangal, came to the city way back in 1992.

They say 'faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains'. When you have a great sense of faith, you can reach extreme heights and only a few people achieve it. And that’s the story behind Telangana Radio, established by Bandela Rajkumar. Telangana Radio which started with just six people in October 2012 now has a dozen team members and half of them hail from Osmania University.

A 1996 batch pass out student of Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Rajkumar who hails from Hanamkonda in Warangal, came to the city way back in 1992.

"I've seen the Telangana agitation when it was at its peak and witnessed many youth laying down their lives for the cause of Telangana. But there were many among students who were not aware of the Telangana folk culture. Since then my mind pondered to bring the sweetness of Telangana folk before the entire world."

While working for a vernacular TV channel, Rajkumar happened to watch a show which moved him a lot. “I happened to watch folk singers from Telangana on that show and the adoration they had towards their homeland. I was deeply captivated by the folk song ‘Vaanamma Vaanama Okka Saaranna Vacchi Pove’, sung by Jayraj”, said Rajkumar.

This motivated him to start a website with a compilation of nearly 500 hundred Telangana folk songs. “My adoration towards the folk culture of Telangana had driven me to start that website,” he said.

But Rajkumar wasn’t happy. It pricked him that people without privilege of the internet would not have access to those songs and thus, with financial assistance from his friends, he began ‘TG’-Radio. ‘TG’ Radio is an online (www.tgradio.com) radio catering Telugu and folk songs pertaining to Telangana region for the Telugus across the globe. "We regularly receive calls from Telugu people from 26 countries thrice in a week and few call us daily. Many are from the districts of Telangana who are working in various countries in the middle-east," said Rajkumar.

With an over-whelming response to the recently concluded 'Banagaru Bathukamma' this month, Telangana Radio is planning to launch youth oriented programmes in the coming month.

"The idea struck in a candid discussion with one of radio jockeys on 'whom to vote' for the coming elections as we have many politicians to choose from for the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly polls. We then had a novel idea to groom students on the developments that are taking place in their respective constituencies." Rajkumar says his online radio will not only be subjected to entertainment but will also play a major role in reconstruction of Telangana.
