A washer woman, Shankaramma (55), was killed in Jannaram mandal of Mancherial district and three others sustained grievous injuries in Basara mandal of Adilabad district when lightning struck them on Thursday.

The injured have been identified as agricultural workers Lakshmi Bai, Anushabai and Durgapatibai of Ratnapur of Basara mandal. They have been hospitalised. Lightning struck them while they were working in the fields.
A major mishap has been averted when the lightning struck Venkata Reddy’s Function Hall in Nirmal town gutting the function hall and causing a damage worth Rs 30 lakh.
As no marriages or events were scheduled at that time, loss of life could be avoided. However, chairs, utensils, decorative equipment was gutted.
Showers and thunder showers, under the influence of monsoons, wreaked havoc in Mancherial, Nirmal and Adilabad districts.
Flooded by the rain water, normal life was disrupted in Nirmal town. Vehicles got struck in the water at Mancherial junction of the town as knee-deep water overflowed on the road. At Bagulaguda and YSR Colony, roads submerged under the rainwater. Many cars were washed away by gushing flood waters.
A drenched wall of the NTR stadium in Nirmal town collapsed, but no casualties were reported. Heavy rains lashed the Mudhole Assembly constituency turning the fields virtually into tanks. People of remote mandals of Kubeer, Mudhole and Basara were subjected to lot of inconvenience on account of rains.
Rain battered the pilgrimage center of Basara for two hours causing inconvenience to people standing in the queue at the temple. As water entered the Basara temple up to a height of two feet, devotees had a tough time in standing in the water.
All the documents in the post-office at Basara, housed in an old building, were damaged because of the water leakages in the roof.
An ad-hoc Road-over-Bridge (ROB) which was under construction at the Ahmednagar in Jannaram mandal collapsed affecting road communications between Adilabad, Nirmal and Mancherial districts. Vehicles were diverted to Mancherial from Adilabad and Nirmal via Dharmapuri causing inconvenience to travellers.
