9 Engineers And 3 Docs Among Civils Toppers. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has on Thursday released the final results of Civil Services Examinations of 2013.
Hyderabad: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has on Thursday released the final results of Civil Services Examinations of 2013.
Interestingly, nine of the top 25 candidates were from engineering stream and three- including the topper among girls have been from medical sciences.
“We can serve more number of people through Civil Services. If it is engineering or medicine, our area of service will be limited,” was the unanimous view of all these techies and professional degree holders. A total of 1,122 have been selected for appointment in IAS, IFS, IPS and Group A and B Central Services. As many as 517 general aspirants have been selected for the post followed by 326 from OBCs. 182 SCs and 92 STs have also got through the coveted exam. 182 candidates have been picked up for IAS and 150 for IPS.
The All India topper was an IITian in Computer Science from Kanpur and also a diploma holder from IIM, Lucknow. Bharati Dixit was a MBBS holder from Lady Hardinge College, Delhi.
Five of the top 25 have made to the merit list in their first attempts, 11 in second attempts, seven in third attempts and two in their fourth attempts.
There is not even a single candidate from either Telangana or Andhra Pradesh in the top 25.
There were 1,228 advertised vacancies for Civil Services Examination 2013.This includes 30 in Physically Handicapped category.
The Civil Services (preliminary) Examination was held on May 26, 2013. A total of 7, 76,565 candidates applied for this examination, out of which 3, 23,949 candidates actually appeared and 14,959 candidates were declared qualified for appearance in the mains examination. The mains exam was held in December, 2013 and based on their performance, 3,003 candidates were shortlisted for the personality test which was conducted in April-June.
Gaurav undergoing training at Hyd
Topper Gaurav Agarwal got selected for IPS last year by securing 244th rank and has been undergoing training at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Police Academy in Hyderabad at present. Not satisfied with his performance last time and also having a strong desire to become an IAS officer, Gaurav applied again "I used to study for 10-12 hours for my last exams. For 2013 Civil Services, I studied for about 6-8 hours," he said.
29-year-old Gaurav, who got through the exam in his second attempt, has also worked as investment banker with Citi Group in Hong Kong between 2008 and 2011. Delhi-based Munish Sharma secured second position whereas 24-year-old Rachit Raj, who hails from Daltonganj in Jharkhand and lives in Ghaziabad, secured third position.
Munish has a Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry) degree from Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University. He got through the exam in second attempt.
"I am very happy. My success is the result of hard work and blessings of my teachers and my mother," Munish said. His mother is an English teacher at a private school here.
Raj credited his feat to his teachers and his parents. He has cracked the examination in his first attempt. The candidature of 40 recommended candidates is provisional and result of one candidate has been withheld, the Ministry of Personnel informed.
Marks are likely to be available on the UPSC website within 15 days from the date of declaration of result, it added.
